I really liked Dr. Oda. He was very personable and explained everything to me well throughout my exam. The new location is nice and they have top notch equipment!

Retinal Screening

Consistent with the recommendations of the American Optometric Association and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Northwest Eye Care strongly recommends that all patients receive a retinal-screening test along with their routine eye examination. Retinal screenings helps detect such conditions as degeneration, glaucoma, retinal holes or detachments, and many systemic vascular problems such as, diabetic retinopathy, hypertension and arteriolosclerosis.

Dilated Fundus Examination

Dilation enables the doctor to examine the eye for cataracts, glaucoma, and other conditions that may result in loss of vision. Early signs of diabetes, arteriosclerosis, and high blood pressure can be detected. In addition, the doctor can examine the retina for any holes, tears, detachments, or tumors.

In order to dilate the eyes, drops are instilled which widen the pupils within 20-30 minutes. Your vision, especially reading vision, may become blurred for about 3-4 hours. Dilation also has a tendency to make your eyes more sensitive to light, so disposable sunglasses are available to ease the glare from the sun.

Optomap Retinal Examination

In lieu of a Dilated Fundus Examination, An Optomap Retinal Exam provides your doctor with a view of approximately 82% of your retina in a single photo capture, which helps your doctor to evaluate your vision health. An Optomap Retinal Exam is quick, painless, has no lasting side effects, and does not require dilating eye drops. Early signs of macular degeneration, diabetes, and hypertension can be detected, in addition to eye birth defects and retinal tears, holes, or detachments. a benefit of an annual Optomap Retinal Exam is a permanent record to compare and track potential eye conditions.

Optomap Retinal Exams are covered by few insurances. If not covered, the cost is $34.00

Contact Lenses

A contact lens is a medical device and can be worn to correct vision, as well as for cosmetic or therapeutic reasons. In the United States, all contact lenses, even purely cosmetic ones, require a prescription. They must be properly fitted and prescribed by an Eye Care Professional.

An eye examination is needed to determine an individual’s suitability for contact lenses. This typically includes a refraction to determine the proper power of the lens and an assessment of the health of the eye.

Prescriptions for contact lenses and glasses may be similar, but are not interchangeable.

Contact lens prescriptions generally expire on a yearly basis, unless otherwise determined by your eye doctor.
